Getting rid of furniture or appliances is not just leaving them next to the container, in these cases, the garbage collection services City councils usually have a protocol to follow, and failure to do so is grounds for sanctions. This is what happened to a man in the United Kingdom who left an air fryer next to some garbage cans because he believed that municipal workers would take it and ended up receiving a fine of 650 pounds (about 760 euros).
As reported by the Telford & Wrekin Town Council, It was the surveillance cameras that recorded the man leaving a box inside which was an air fryer next to some residential containers.
After investigating the incident, the agents were able to identify the owner of the fryer based on the information they found on the box itself. When they spoke to the person in charge, he explained that he had left the appliance there because he thought the garbage collection service would be in charge of removing it.
I thought the municipal workers would pick up the fryer
Both in this municipality and in many others, the problem with this type of electrical equipment is that they cannot be left next to the containers or disposed of with normal household waste.
As stated by Telford & Wrekin Council, electrical waste must be taken to appropriate recycling facilities, so leaving the fryer next to the containers was considered illegal dumping.
“There is no excuse to leave waste next to the containers and wait for it to be collected,” said the municipal head of Highways, Housing and Regulatory Compliance, who also reminded that devices such as air fryers must be disposed of correctly.
In this case, the City Council had both a recycling point to deposit them and a special collection service for this type of objects, which would have to be notified in advance.
For the illegal dumping, the man was fined 650 pounds (about 760 euros), a figure that was paid with a reduction for prompt payment, but the action could have been punished with up to 1,000 pounds (about 1,170 euros).
