With the arrival of summer and the month of June, the more than 10 million pensioners in Spain ask themselves the same question: When is the extra summer pay collected? Social Security is paid “in arrears”, between Wednesday, July 1 and Friday, July 3, 2026, but most banks advance the payment between Wednesday, June 24 and Tuesday, June 30. The indicative income dates according to the bank are as follows:

  • CaixaBank: Wednesday, June 24
  • Santander: Wednesday, June 24
  • Sabadell: Wednesday June 24
  • Engineers Fund: Thursday, June 25
  • Cajamar: Thursday June 25
  • Ibercaja: Thursday, June 25
  • Unicaja: Thursday June 25
  • Bankinter: Thursday, June 25
  • ING: Thursday June 25
  • Abanca: Thursday, June 25
  • BBVA: Thursday, June 25
  • Kutxabank: Thursday, June 25

Extraordinary payments are a right that is regulated in article 47 of the General Social Security Law (it can be verified in this BOE). The rule recognizes that pensioners have the right to collect a total of 14 payments throughout the year. Of these, 12 correspond to ordinary monthly payments and 2 are extraordinary, which are charged one in summer and another at Christmas.

Social Security refuses to recognize permanent disability due to a work accident for employees who suffer injuries resulting from reckless negligence.

He claims 12,185.24 euros in arrears of 20% of his permanent disability pension, Social Security only pays him three months and the court denies it for requesting it late

Extra payments, like payrolls, come with the increase, so this year the amount must be revalued by 2.7%, as stated in Royal Decree 39/2026. In the case of minimum pensions, remember that the increase is greater, as stated in Royal Decree 2/2023. which translates into a higher summer extra pay than last year.

In this way, almost all pensioners will receive a double income. And we say almost all pensioners, since the regulations explain that there are certain pensions and pensioners who will not receive it as they have it prorated or who do not have the right to all of it.

Which retirees do not receive extra summer pay or will only receive part of it?

Permanent disability pensions resulting from a work accident or occupational disease will not be received. This is stated in article 47.2 of the General Social Security Law. At this point it must be clarified that it is not that they do not have the right to extra pay, but rather that these are charged on a prorated basis.

Those pensioners whose pension has been recognized by Social Security after May 31 will also not receive it. The accrual period for the summer bonus goes from December 1 to May 31, so anyone who begins to collect outside that range does not generate the right to the first extra payment of the year.

Pensioners with their pension suspended during the accrual period are also excluded, as stated in article 43.1 of the LGSS. If the benefit was paralyzed during those months, the extra is not accrued.

For their part, only pensioners who began collecting within the accrual period, but did not complete it, will collect a part of the pension. Pay is calculated proportionally. For example, if a retiree began collecting on March 1, 2026, he has generated 3 of the 6 months of the semester, so he will receive half of the extra pay. If your pension is 1,500 euros, you will receive an extra 750 euros in June.

This proportional distribution, known as the principle of proportionality of the accrual of benefits, is included in articles 43 and 47 of the LGSS. In the next accrual, if there are no interruptions, the pensioner will receive the full extra.

What to do if the extra pay has not been entered on July 3?

If by Friday, July 3, 2026, the pension and extra pay have not entered the account, the first step is to contact the bank to rule out an internal incident or withholding. If the entity confirms that it has not received the TGSS payment order, the next step is to claim from Social Security. The most agile way is telematics, through the Import@ss platform in the Electronic Headquarters. In person, you can go to a Social Security Assistance and Information Center (CAISS) with an appointment, which is requested by calling the toll-free number 060 or from the Electronic Office itself.

Each pensioner can check the exact amount that corresponds to them, along with the breakdown of the two annual extra payments, in the simulator and the withholding certificate available in the Social Security Electronic Headquarters.
