The Government will approve this Tuesday aid for the victims of the Urda train accident and Óscar Puente will appear in Congress

The Government plans to approve this Tuesday, November 3, a royal decree with aid for the victims of the train accident in Urda (Toledo), in which two high-speed trains collided, one from Renfe and the other from Iryo, and in which 69 people died, including former minister Fátima Báñez. In addition, the Council of Ministers will also receive a report from the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, on everything that happened.

The main idea, according to Government sources who have informed the EFE Agency, is that a new appearance will take place this Tuesday by Minister Óscar Puente, by holding a press conference at the Moncloa Palace, after the meeting of the Council of Ministers, to explain the report issued as well as give details of the aid that will go to the victims of the accident.

This appearance comes after The Minister of Transport offered explanations last Friday about the Urda train accidentin an official press conference in which he also said that he was not going to present his resignation unless the President of the Government asked him to, at the same time that he took the opportunity to advance that he is preparing a battery of measures to minimize the possibility of technical failures and “regain the trust” of citizens in the railway system.

The Government will approve the aid through a royal decree

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, already announced last Thursday, during a statement in Toledo, that the General Administration of the State, in addition to responding to the emergency and focusing on clarifying what happened, would allocate financial aid to those affected by the accident.

In the same way as in the event of other catastrophes, this aid will be included in a royal decree that the Executive intends to approve this Tuesday.

At that meeting of the Council of Ministers, the first after the train accident, Puente will present a report on what happened that will foreseeably include details of the explanations he gave last Friday at the Ministry of Transport.

In addition, they also plan to make a new official appearance before the Permanent Deputation of Congress to report the data they have about the accident.

The January aid included more than 210,000 euros per deceased

As background, nine days after the Adamuz train accident, which occurred on January 18, The Council of Ministers approved a royal decree that established compensation of just over 210,000 euros per deceasedwithin a set of immediate aid and advances intended for the victims.

At that time, Óscar Puente explained that the decision was adopted because ordinary procedures and judicial times do not always respond to the vital urgency of a tragedy, so the victims could not wait to receive financial support.

Specifically, of the amount allocated to the relatives of each deceased, 72,000 euros corresponded to non-refundable compensation, another 72,000 euros to an advance payment for civil liability insurance and a further 72,000 euros to mandatory insurance.

For its part, compensation for bodily injuries was determined according to the existing scale, with amounts ranging from 2,400 euros for minor cases to more than 84,000 euros for the most serious cases.

These amounts, as Puente explained then, would be paid in a single payment and would be exempt from taxation.

The Community of Madrid offers aid of up to 300,000 euros to companies that train and hire unemployed people

Until now, the Government has not yet specified the amounts of new aid for the victims of the Urda accident, which will likely be known after the Council of Ministers meeting this Tuesday.
