Social Security will stop applying the additional 10% increase to the supplement for reducing the gender gap in pensions starting in 2026. This is because the measure, designed to correct the differences between pensions between men and women, had a period from 2024 to 2025. In this way, starting next year, this economic supplement will be updated according to the average CPIlike the rest of the contributory pensions.
Thus, this regulation puts an end to the “double revaluation” that pensioners entitled to the gender gap supplement have experienced in the last two years, where an extra 10% was added to the annual CPI to improve the already existing amounts.

This temporal limitation is regulated in the first transitional provision of Royal Decree-Law 2/2023 (which can be consulted in this BOE), which literally established that the additional 10% increase would be distributed exclusively “between both years” (2024 and 2025). Therefore, unless the Government makes a modification, in 2026 the supplement will lose that extra boost and its growth will moderate, being strictly linked to the cost of living as stipulated in article 58 of the General Law of Social Security, which we remember is the one that establishes the revaluation of pensions and benefits.
You have to know and understand that this does not mean that the complement is already frozen and will not rise, it will, but at the corresponding rate according to previous years. In this way, the child pension supplement will not lose purchasing power.
How will the amount be and who are the beneficiaries?
The amount of the supplement for the gender gap reduction is 35.90 euros per month for each son or daughter up to a maximum of four times that amount (143.60 euros per month). This can be collected by pensioners who collect a contributory pension, that is, in addition to retirement, it can be collected by those with permanent disability or widowhood.
This supplement is collected in fourteen payments, so you are entitled to two extraordinary payments at Christmas (November) and June and it does not count toward the maximum pension limit or for the calculation of minimum supplements.
How much will the complement increase to minimums in 2026
According to experts such as BBVA or FUNCAS, average pensions are expected to grow by around 2.6%. Knowing this we can know more or less approximately when the complement will rise to minimums by 2026,
| Number of children | Monthly amount 2025 | Annual amount 2025 | Monthly amount 2026 | Annual amount 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | €35.90 | €502.60 | €36.83 | €515.62 |
| 2 | €71.80 | €1,005.20 | €73.66 | €1,031.24 |
| 3 | €107.70 | €1,507.80 | €110.50 | €1,547.00 |
| 4 | €143.60 | €2,010.40 | €147.33 | €2,062.62 |
Even so, to understand it better, let’s give an example. In 2025, María receives 71.80 euros per month for this concept (€35.90 x 2 children). If by 2026, it foresees a revaluation of 2.6%, the revaluation of its complement would undergo a drastic change in criteria compared to previous years:
- Scenario with the previous rule (2024-2025): If the temporary improvement of Royal Decree-Law 2/2023 remained in force, an extra 10% would be added to the inflation of 2.6%, resulting in a total increase of 12.6%. His complement would have amounted to around €80.85.
- Actual scenario for 2026: At the end of the validity of the first transitional provision, the provisions of article 58.2 of the General Social Security Law will be strictly applied: only 2.6% of the estimated CPI.
Therefore, your supplement will go from €71.80 to approximately €73.67 per month in 2026.
