The Government, through the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration coordinated by Elma Saiz, has sent a strong message to the president of the PP (Popular Party), Alberto Núñez Feijóo about its announcement about the pension revaluation in 2026. Thus, the Executive demands that the opposition be “responsible” and stop “confusing pensioners” after announcing a bill to guarantee the increase in pensions in 2026.
An idea that, they pointed out, would occur even if the extension of the General State Budgets (PGE). Ministerial sources have assured, as stated Europa Press, that no reform is necessary to guarantee this revaluation because pensions are “protected by law.” “The purchasing power of retirees is guaranteed thanks to a rule promoted by this Government that corrected the previous one that practically froze pensions.”
Social Security, therefore, calls for peace of mind to the 9.5 million pensioners in Spain, some of whom earn 2,909 euros in his pension retirement.
Reminds the PP that they voted against revaluing pensions
The Executive has reminded the PP that at the time, they voted against revaluing pensions in 2025, which generated “enormous insecurity” among retirees and pensioners, forcing them to approve a second decree law. “Pensioners need certainty and not to gamble with their payments.”
From Elma Saiz’s ministry they insist that the Executive’s commitment to pensioners is “unbreakable,” especially with those who receive the lowest pensions. In 2025, this benefit paid by Social Security increased by 2.8% according to the CPI and the minimum benefits rose between 6% and 9% above the cost of living.
The revaluation policy has served to reduce the poverty rate by 16.4%, preventing 8 million people from reaching extreme situations. “Guaranteing decent pensions is not an economic or political issue, but rather a commitment to equality and social well-being.”
