The inheritance tax is always currently in Spain because, in many cases, it generates a great controversy. Having to pay for an inheritance sometimes puts in serious problems the person who receives the money, to the point of having to give up the inherited, as happened to a man who He received in inheritance a floor of 2 million euros from an aunt who did not know. The inheritance tax changes according to the autonomous community and according to the estimates of the Bank of Spain, unifying it would raise the collection to 10.2 billion.
The economist Gonzalo Bernardos, known for his television appearances in current programs such as the Sixth Xplica, has been overwhelming on the payment of the Inheritance and Donations Tax (ISD). In a message posted on his social network X he explained that this tax “is not a death tax, since the dead or receives or pays anything.” And, this expense has to assume the heirs, not the deceased.

Now, the amount they must pay changes depending on the assets that are inherited, of the kinship or the place where it is resided. Bernardos continues his message pointing out that those who must pay are the descendants “if in Spain they inherit a lot of heritage. Some descendants who receive a great gift because they have not generated this heritage.”
The inheritance tax is different from that of IRPF for several reasons
Gonzalo Bernardos continues to explain that there is no double imposition in the inheritance tax, since it is taxable “an taxable fact different from that of the IRPF. In the IRPF the obtaining of income and in that of inheritance the transmission of wealth is taxed”.
Although there are those who deny this statement, the Catalan economist is clear: “Those who advocate suppressing for said double imposition, the succession tax, could also apply the same concept to VAT or any other tax, why don’t they ask for it?”
He has the answer himself and that “the succession tax is mainly paid by the rich and the VAT mainly the poor. The fiscal effort in relation to their income is much greater in the seconds than in the first with respect to their wealth.”
In relation to inheritance tax, “it seems very good that those who have a high assets are paid, it seems very bad that those who have inherited a floor and a little money from a deposit or investment fund.”
“The heirs of the workers’ families do not pay inheritance tax”
“Even if the right, over and over again, the heirs of the workers’ families do not pay inheritance tax in Spain. The right has won the battle of the story because the left has failed to generate an alternative one,” explains the economist in his social network.
“If those who receive in inheritance a great assets do not pay taxes, there is less money for health, education and social benefits. And who is the injured party? Families with less income.”
