The Congress of Deputies says “no” to the Government’s omnibus decree. It is one of the fiscal measures that were rejected yesterday in the session. The omnibus decree includes several issues regarding justice or public service. Even in social measures. In it, various aspects were launched, such as the increase in pensions, the digitalization of justice, streamlining procedures and administrative processes, among others. And one of the aspects that it also included (and that will no longer be carried out) was the 15% deduction for the acquisition of plug-in and fuel cell electric vehicles and charging points. This supposes the goodbye to the extension of the Moves III Plan and the aid when it comes to getting a plug-in car.
This resolution and its non-validation have fallen like a cold water not only to the Government, but also to the automotive sector itself. According to the Faconauto Dealers Association, this will directly affect the sales of vehicles of this type since they could be paralyzed and income will decrease. In addition, it would put the goal of ending coal in Spain even further away, as set by the European Union in terms of decarbonization. From the sector they have indicated that “the automotive sector is committed to reducing emissions and moving towards electromobility.”
It must be taken into account that Spain is the second country in automobile manufacturing, which could also mean less employment in the sector: “which can penalize Spanish production and employment in our factories,” they add.
What the decree contemplated in electric cars
This decree not only contemplated aid when purchasing this type of car in the automobile market, They also contemplated aid of up to 80% for install charging points in community garagesFor example. Or in towns with less than 5,000 inhabitants that had an electric car and had nowhere to charge it.
It also collected aid for companies, through subsidies, for those that installed charging points of up to 50 kW and for an amount of up to 60% in some cases.
What other measures have not been carried out in this decree?
Among the fiscal measures highlighted in this omnibus decree that have been rejected there are some of great importance. Like personal income tax deductions regarding energy efficiency. Another that has not been approved is the entry into force of the taxes that were going to be applied to electronic cigarettes and also to the rest of tobacco. It is also worth highlighting Congress’s no regarding the minimum wage, included in the omnibus decree.
Although the General State Budgets are automatically extended, the Government had included in this decree criteria such as the pension revaluationwhich have not moved forward either.
The Government’s response to the rejection
Pedro Sánchez has been in charge of showing his discontent after yesterday’s session of Congress. And he has done it from Valencia. He assures that in the Government action will be taken and some measures contained in the decree will be approved againbut it will not be done immediately: “calmly and without haste” he assured. He states that those who voted no will have to come forward and explain why they said no: “We must explore new avenues.”
