Duplicate charge of the bank: the OCU explains how you can act to recover your money

If we have seen a duplicate position or an expense that has been counted twice, a good part of the fault has the card that is linked to that bank account. This is said by the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU), which also expresses that the increasingly common use of plastic means that sometimes the expenses can lead to errors and position themselves in the form of the occasional duplicate position or that the account is seen in red numbers.

More; Up to 63% of the Spanish population has a credit card, according to the financial competence survey carried out by the Bank of Spain. This banking instrument is used day by day by millions of people in our country. That is why, among the multiple operations that are carried out, it is not surprising that the owner meets the occasional unpleasant surprise of these characteristics.

The payment order must be authorized, registered and accounted for

However, this type of ‘surprises’ are more frequent than they seem, and can be taken for a multitude of different factors: from a human failure (the same transaction is introduced twice), a technical error in the bank software, which replicates twice the same position, a poorly programmed transaction.

That is why we must be clear what rights assist us, and exercise them. Experts recommend reviewing bank extracts and the list of movements in search of errors: duplicate, not recognized or even fraudulent charges. It is the best way to solve the problem with some speed, instead of meeting him some time later.

Although it does not always happen, sometimes, when paying in any trade or establishment, it can charge the client for error twice for the same. When an unauthorized payment operation is detected, that is, that the same has been charged twice, the affected must submit a claim to the card issuer, that is, to the bank. This is indicated from the OCU, the organization of consumers and users.

The OCU declares that we have 13 months to claim the bank from the date of the duplicate position

Whenever an unauthorized payment operation is detected, our entity must be claimed, and a claim must be made. As they maintain from the organization, there is a period of 13 months since the date of the position. Upon receiving the claim, the entity will verify if the payment order is authorized, registered accurately and accounted for. You must also check if there was a technical failure or any other deficiency.

Once the checks have been made and the fault detected, the bank will proceed to return the money charged more: the card issuer will pay the money on the credit card or, if it is a debit card, in the current account.

As they explain, it is always convenient to review the extracts of credit and debit cards, not only to detect possible errors, such as a duplicate position; but also to detect fraudulent charges because a third has been able to access your card data, advises the OCU, which adds that it always should have a safe card.
