An employee buys a lottery ticket that a client had rejected for 9 euros and wins 11.4 million euros: the company fires him and they claim the prize

Win a millionaire prize in the lottery It is something that many people dream of and, when it finally comes, the last thing they expect is to have to go to court to prove that the money belongs to them. This is exactly what happened to a store employee in the United States, who bought for 10 dollars (about 9 euros) a lottery ticket that a customer had left unpaid and discovered that it was awarded 12.8 million dollars (about 11.4 million euros).

According to information published by Axiosthe employee was the manager of a Circle K chain store in Arizona. It was in this establishment where a customer had bought several tickets worth 76 euros, but she only had 60 euros to pay for them, so she only took a few and left the rest in the establishment.

The next day, the manager discovered that one of the remaining tickets had been awarded and decided to buy it. However, the company questioned the operation and ended up firing him. Now, the case has reached the courts, where the worker, a former colleague and the client who ordered the tickets defend their rights to the prize.

He bought the ticket after discovering that it was awarded 11.4 million euros

From what was explained during the procedure, it was after realizing that one of the tickets had been awarded that the worker decided to buy it. To do this, he waited until his workday was over to sign in and take off his uniform, since internal regulations prohibit employees from purchasing lottery tickets while they are on duty.

Once he was off work, he returned and bought the tickets, among which was the one awarded with more than 11 million euros.

According to court documents, the worker had sent a message to his supervisor to ask if he could carry out the operation, although he did not explain that one of them had already been awarded.

However, when the company discovered what happened, it withheld the ticket and fired the manager for failing to comply with its internal rules, a decision that the man has also decided to appeal to the courts.

The company assures that the purchase was not valid and the client also claims the prize

One of the main questions that Justice will have to resolve is who the prize really belongs to, since several people consider that they have the right to keep the money.

On the one hand, the company maintains that the purchase made by the worker was not valid because it occurred after the draw was held. In addition, lottery rules establish that printed tickets that are not sold belong to the establishment.

However, the manager assures that the store had an internal rule, although it was not written, that obliged employees to buy those that customers left unpaid.

In fact, several workers and former employees have supported this version and the man defends that the award belongs to both him and a former colleague.

Added to this is that the client has also claimed her property, even though she did not pay for them.

Finally, the Circle K chain filed a lawsuit for a judge to determine who has the right to collect the 12.8 million dollars (about 11.4 million euros), although the company has not directly requested that the prize be awarded to it.

At the moment, the conflict remains unresolved and a new hearing is scheduled for November 6. Until then, none of those involved have the right to collect the money, and the final resolution could still take several months.
