According to the latest data from Social Security, in Spain around 830,000 families, in which 2,532,284 people live together, need the Minimum Vital Income to complement their income. After the 11.4% revaluation approved under Royal Decree 3/2026, the guaranteed income starts at 733.60 euros per month for a single adult and reaches 1,613.92 euros per month in larger cohabitation units, without counting supplements for single parenthood, disability or child support (CAPI).
Who can apply for the Minimum Vital Income in 2026
The requirements of the Minimum Living Income establish that they can be people aged between 23 and 65, that is, it corresponds to those born between 1961 and 2003, although the law contemplates exceptions.
Young people between 18 and 22 years old from child protection centers or released after a deprivation of liberty of more than six months can access it, as well as victims of gender violence, victims of trafficking and sexual exploitation, absolute orphans and people with dependent children or minors. Those over 65 years of age can also access if they are not beneficiaries of a retirement pension.
Before processing the application with the National Social Security Institute, it is advisable to review the conditions established by Law 19/2021, of December 20, on the Minimum Living Income:
- Age: between 23 and 65 years in general. Between 18 and 22 years in exceptional cases, and without an upper limit for those who do not receive a retirement pension.
- Residence: legal and effective in Spain for at least the year immediately preceding the application. This period is not required for victims of gender violence, trafficking or sexual exploitation.
- Economic vulnerability: income from the previous year must be below the guaranteed monthly income. In 2026, the threshold for a single adult is 733.60 euros per month (8,803.20 euros annually).
- Assets: the law sets a limit equivalent to three times the annual guaranteed income, excluding the habitual residence. In 2026, this limit for an adult only amounts to 26,409.60 euros.
- Documentation: DNI or NIE and family book, as well as specific supporting documents according to the applicant’s profile. Social Security collects tax and Register data ex officio through administrative interoperability, so the citizen does not have to provide it.
Amounts of the Minimum Vital Income for 2026
The Minimum Living Income is an amount of money that supplements the income of the person or cohabitation unit, so Social Security assigns an “amount” based on the members, but what is received is the difference between that amount and the income.
Thus, starting from the 733.60 euros guaranteed to a single adult, the figure increases by 30% for each additional member from the second onwards, with a ceiling of 220% that is reached in larger units. To this base income are added supplements equivalent to 22% for single parenthood, for disability equal to or greater than 65% and for being a victim of gender violence.
