The Institute for the Elderly and Social Services (Imserso) has already started the season of its Social Tourism Program with a total of 879,213 places with destinations on the peninsular coast, the islands and getaways to provincial capitals. In addition, there are 7,447 vacancies open for people who are receiving a low pension, so they will only have to pay 50 euros and the rest will be subsidized by the Government.
Last year (2025 – 2026 season) more than 5,200 seniors requested this reduced price, compared to the 523 requests registered the previous year. Now, in the bases it says that these Discounted places are reserved for the lowest pensions But what are these? What quantities are we talking about? The first thing is to clarify that in order to benefit from one of these thousands of places you must be enrolled in the program and have an income equal to or less than that of the non-contributory retirement or disability pensions of Social Security (2026).
That is, not charging more than 628.80 euros per month, 8,803.20 euros annually in 14 payments, as stipulated in RD 357/1991, which regulates these benefits. Once the requirements are verified by Imserso, you will be eligible for trips with full board, insurance and transportation (round trip) to a much lower cost than other users that they are collecting high pensions, compared to these.
Retirees will be able to bring their pets
Once again, Imserso has the option of traveling with your pet, since there are 2% of trips reserved for retirees and pensioners who do not want to leave their pets at home. Of course, you must be clear that you cannot take any type of animal.
Last season, Imserso provided a total of 13,368 places for those who wanted to take their dog or cat with them. The animal must weigh less than 10 kilos, a weight that includes the carrier and animals that are considered dangerous are excluded from this option.
It affects the peninsular and island coast routes and therefore the getaway is excluded, such as cultural circuits, nature tourism or trips to provincial capitals and it does not apply to Ceuta and Melilla either.
