Access to housing has become one of the main concerns of the Spaniards. The high prices, both for purchase and rent, make housing become a luxury good for a good part of the population, especially for vulnerable groups, such as people with disabilities. Anyway, and as there are aid to acquire a house, there are also them from the government to reform a home for these people.
These grants are part of the State Housing Plan 2022-2025, approved by Royal Decree 903/2022 of October 22 and designed to facilitate access to adapted homes and promote the inclusion of this group. These can cover up to 50% of the monthly rental rent, offering significant support for people with disabilities.

They can request aid for adaptation and accessibility
One of the aid that achieves greater accessibility to adapt the house to people with disabilities, is the one that covers up to 80% of the budget of the work, with a maximum of 18,000 euros per address. It is included in the homes of the elderly, with disabilities equal to or greater than 33% or in vulnerability
We talk that in Spain, more than four million people live with some type of physical, sensory or psychic disability, according to the latest reports of the State Observatory of Disability. This important group faces everyday barriers that go beyond the usual difficulties in the housing market, such as accessibility within their homes or their location in environments adapted to their specific needs.
This is where maximum amounts are usually established depending on the concept. For example, in Asturias the limit amount for the adaptation of the bathrooms will be 2,000 euros, while to install adequate doors the maximum is 1,500 euros. Or in the Basque Country, where the maximum to be received to adapt the bathroom is 6,000 euros.
Installation of ramps and elevators, bathrooms or kitchens adapted
In this sense, you aid like these of the Government are those that cover a wide range of interventions, from the installation of ramps and elevators to the adaptation of bathrooms and kitchens. It is true that depending on the autonomous community in which these amounts are resided, they can be greater or minor. This, because each administration has its own aid program for the rehabilitation of buildings and improvement of accessibility.
For example, in the Community of Madrid its Adapta Madrid 2025 is in force, aimed at promoting the adaptation of housing and premises located on the ground floor for people with disabilities and rare diseases. In its case, the initiative allows to cover between 40% and 90% of the cost of the works.
While in Andalusia, the aids that exist have amounts that vary according to the type of housing and recognized disability. For single -family homes, the maximum amount can be 12,500 euros, being able to increase to 15,000 or 18,000 euros, depending on the degree of disability.
Other communities, such as Catalonia, Aragon and the Valencian Community, have also enabled specific subsidies to improve accessibility in private homes. In Catalonia, there are programs for the change of bathroom by shower and the functional adaptation of the home. Aragon promotes aids aimed at eliminating architectural barriers in housing from the elderly and with disabilities. And in Valencia, subsidies for the adequacy of housing and the promotion of personal autonomy are promoted.
Requirements to be met
These aid may be destined both to improve the general accessibility of urbanizations, with the installation of ramps, elevators, salvaescaleras or opening automatisms, even more concrete, such as the installation of cranes or home automation within the houses.
The maximum amount established to help the accessibility of homes are up to 18,000 euros if a person with severe disabilities resides.
In general, almost all regions demand the same requirements so that we can accept these grants, such as the following:
- Have a degree of disability equal to or greater than 33% and exceed the reduced mobility scale. An assessment that will have to perform the corresponding services.
- Prove the legal residence and the address for at least five years in the community in which we are going to ask for help.
- The aid must be requested for the usual housing and in which the registration of the person with disabilities is recorded. Therefore, these aids are not committed to help us adapt a house where we only spend vacations.
- Not having benefited from similar aid in the five years prior to the request for this financial aid.
- Have an individual income or family per capita lower than the public indicator of multiple effects income (IPREM) for the exercise prior to the call.
