Buy land to build or install a house It is something that is becoming more and more common, what does not happen so often is making a mistake and doing it in the wrong field, but it is just what happened to an Australian couple. They built a house where they planned to retire on the neighbors’ land and, after two years of disputes, they have to remove it to put it on their plot, something that will cost them 62,000 euros.
As collected from ABC Newsthe couple explained that, after making a visit with the real estate agent, they thought they had identified which plot was, but some time later they discovered that the house had been installed on the land next door, which was not their property.
The real estate agent denied making any mistakes and noted that the couple might have been confused. For a time, the possibility of exchanging both plots was studied, but the owner of the land where the house had been built considered that the two plots did not have the same value.
The owner of the land gave them 14 days to remove the house
The conflict dragged on until, in August 2025, the owner of the plot gave them 14 days to remove the house and return the land to its original state, warning that if they did not do so, the house could be sold.
Finally, the deadline was extended and it was then that they began to prepare the transfer of the entire home to the land that corresponded to it. To do this, they had to make a large investment by cutting off supplies, removing the septic system and disconnecting the facility. electrical. Afterwards, the house was divided and loaded onto a truck to travel the approximately 100 meters that separated one plot from the other.
“It was a great relief when we saw the truck moving the house to the correct land,” the woman explained. For this new installation they would have to make new foundations and leave the neighbor’s land as it was.
According to their calculations, moving the house, reinforcing the foundation and reconnecting it to electricity and other services will cost them around 100,000 Australian dollars (about 62,000 euros). An amount that is added to the approximately 500,000 Australian dollars (about 310,000 euros) that they claim to have already spent.

To this inconvenience we must add that, during the entire adaptation of the house to the new land, they would have to be living in a caravan.
