A few weeks before it is mandatory to carry a V16 beacon connected As of January 1, many drivers are rushing to buy it before the transition period ends. The variety of models and prices has raised doubts among users, who seek to ensure that the chosen device is approved and valid beyond 2025.
In this sense, the technology chain Worten has spread a message this Monday on the social network The product offered, however, does not have connectivity with the DGT 3.0 platform, an essential requirement for its legal use from that date.

The article file on the Worten website describes a beacon with a high visibility flashing light, resistant to adverse weather conditions and equipped with a magnet to adhere to the roof of the vehicle. However, it does not include a GPS chip or integrated SIM card, elements necessary to send the location of the stopped vehicle to the General Directorate of Traffic.
The commercial description does not warn at any point that the device will cease to be valid when the mandatory connected model comes into force.
What does the DGT require for a V16 beacon to be valid?
The DGT details on its portal that the connected V16 device will be the only legal means of pre-signaling danger starting next January 1. This beacon, which will replace the classic triangles, must have a yellow light visible from a kilometer away and the ability to automatically transmit its location every hundred seconds until it is deactivated. The system works without the need for mobile phones or external applications. Connectivity, mandatory for at least twelve years, is included in the sales price of the product.
Currently, connected and non-connected models can coexist on the market, but only the former are authorized for use beyond the transitional period that expires in December. The beacons that have passed the technical tests in the laboratories designated by the State are published in the DGT website.

Confusion among drivers and criticism over Worten advertising
The implementation of the new V16 connected beacon is progressing, but many drivers still have doubts about which models are really valid. Approved connected devices include, on the lampshade itself, an identifying mark composed of the name of the laboratory and the test report number. The beacon offered by Worten does not display this certification in the product image or in the commercial description.
The approved connected models have a significantly higher price, between 40 and 60 euros, due to the integrated geolocation system and the communications service included during the useful life of the device. The notable price difference compared to the item announced by Worten has generated criticism on social networks, where several users have pointed out that the company may be misleading by mentioning the DGT and suggesting that its cheap product meets regulatory requirements. Hours after the controversy generated on social networks, Worten has deleted the publication.
The DGT reminds that unconnected V16 beacons “will not be valid as a means of signaling” starting next year and advises always checking the approval before purchasing any device. Traffic reminds that this device seeks to prevent drivers from having to get out of the car to place the triangles and improve the visibility of the stopped vehicle. The infraction for incorrectly signaling an immobilized vehicle can lead to a fine and compromise road safety.
