The Ministry of Finance issued a statement this Tuesday to confirm that there has been no cyber attack that has caused the theft of taxpayers’ personal data or unwanted access to their systems. They assure that “they have not found a trace”, after checks by the security team of the different Government departments, as indicated by sources from the department directed by María Jesús Montero.
The clarification comes after the cybersecurity firm Hackmanac alerted on Monday, through the social network
The threats, as indicated by tweetsupposedly came from a group called ‘HaciendaSec’, which had accessed Treasury information to put up for sale an updated database with information related to the DNI or NIF, full names, postal addresses, telephone numbers, emails, bank details and tax information of millions of taxpayers.
The Treasury rules out any intrusion after reviews of its cybersecurity systems
After having carried out the relevant checks and reviews through the specialized cybersecurity units, the Ministry of Finance has assured that there is no trace of a cyber attack that has caused data theft or an intrusion into its computer systems.
Sources from the ministry have stressed that, however, those responsible for cybersecurity will continue to monitor the situation preventively, with the aim of monitoring the systems for possible future incidents that may occur.
The official confirmation thus seeks to reassure taxpayers, after the concern generated by the dissemination of the notice on social networks about an alleged massive leak of personal data linked to the Tax Agency.
