With the 2026 Income campaign about to begin on April 8 and with a deadline until June 30, many taxpayers are already looking for ways to pay less taxes. In this context, knowing the available deductions, especially the regional ones, can make a difference in the final result of the declaration.
In the case of Andalusia, the Board maintains a specific deduction in personal income tax for pet veterinary expenses that can reach up to 100 euros, a measure also confirmed in the electronic headquarters of the Tax Agencywhere all the details of this tax incentive applicable in the 2025 tax return are included.
This deduction allows you to reduce the regional tax rate, that is, it does not represent direct income, but rather a tax saving. Its objective is to alleviate the cost of health care for pets, a common expense in many homes and which is increasing, especially with the recent increase in inflation.
How much can you deduct for veterinary expenses
Andalusian taxpayers can deduct 30% of veterinary expenses incurred during the fiscal year, with a maximum limit of 100 euros per year per declaration.
This means that, regardless of the number of pets or the total expense, the tax savings cap will be 100 euros. The deduction is applied exclusively to the regional personal income tax quota.
What veterinary expenses can be included?
Not all pet-related expenses qualify for a deduction. As detailed by the Tax Agency, those directly linked to the health and well-being of the animal are considered deductible.
These include:
- Veterinary consultations and clinical treatments
- Diagnostic tests and surgical interventions
- Vaccinations and mandatory deworming
- Preventive services prescribed by the veterinarian
- Sterilization expenses when mandatory
Expenses associated with the ownership of assistance dogs are also contemplated, including those intended for people with disabilities or specific situations such as victims of gender violence.
How long can you apply the deduction
The period during which this deduction can be applied depends on how the pet arrived to us, since in each case it will have a different duration. These are the different cases and the duration of the deduction for each one:
- Purchase of the animal: only during the first year from the acquisition
- Adoption: during the following three years
- Assistance dogs: without time limit for the duration of their ownership
In addition, only those who have acquired or adopted the animal as of January 1, 2025 will be able to benefit.
Requirements to benefit
Not everyone is granted this income deduction for the simple fact of caring for a pet, but it is necessary to meet a series of economic and formal conditions or justification in reference to the animal in charge.
Regarding income, the sum of the general tax base and savings cannot exceed:
- 80,000 euros in individual taxation
- 100,000 euros in joint taxation
On the other hand, the expenses must be correctly justified by an invoice issued by a veterinarian or authorized center, which includes the tax data, the date and the concept of the service.
In addition, the regulations establish that payments must have been made as of January 1, 2025 and comply with the legal requirements regarding the acquisition, sale or adoption of the animal.
Help for taking care of your dog
This regional deduction is added to the set of tax benefits that can be applied to income and that, although in many cases go unnoticed, allow the tax bill to be significantly reduced.
In a context in which veterinary costs have not stopped increasing, this measure seeks to recognize the economic effort of pet owners, especially in a community like Andalusia where the presence of pets in homes is increasing.
