The SEPE is suspending the payment of the subsidy to those over 52 years of age who do not file the annual income tax return.

To continue receiving the subsidy for those over 52 years of age, it is mandatory to submit the Annual Income Declaration every year. The State Public Employment Service (SEPE) requires this document to verify that the lack of income requirement continues to be met. Failure to do so entails the suspension of the benefit temporarily until said obligation is fulfilled.

The subsidy for those over 52 years of age is a benefit that, unlike the rest of the subsidies, is collected indefinitely until reaching retirement age, in addition to contributing 125% of the current minimum base each year. In addition, it is a “welfare aid”, that is, it can only be collected by those people with low income.

That is why the SEPE requires income below 75% of the Minimum Interprofessional Salary (SMI), excluding the proportional part of the two extraordinary payments. With the last increase in the SMI for the year 2026, this income limit is established at 915.75 euros per month. It is important to remember that, unlike other subsidies, in this case only the applicant’s own income is counted and not that of his or her family unit.

Thus, and to control this “lack”, the SEPE asks the beneficiaries that, to maintain the subsidy for those over 52 years of age, it is mandatory to present an Annual Income Declaration or DAR each year, as explained on its website. Because it is a periodic procedure, the organization remembers it again through its social networks.

The annual income declaration is a mandatory procedure that beneficiaries of the subsidy for those over 52 years of age must complete in order to continue receiving said benefit uninterruptedly. This annual income declaration must be submitted every time 12 months elapse from the date of granting the subsidy or from the date of the last resumption.

How to submit the declaration without going to an employment office

The Annual Income Declaration can be submitted without having to make an appointment through the SEPE Electronic Office, which can be accessed at the following link. Once inside, you have to go down to the bottom and click on “Start declaration”. In the form you will have to fill out personal information such as bank details, personal information, family information, as well as contact information.

The deadline to present it is 15 business days from the expiration of said grace period. For example: a person is granted the 52-year-old subsidy on September 12, 2022. For one year they will be entitled to the aid and from September 12, 2023 they will begin counting the 15 business days to submit the income tax return. Remember that business days do not include Saturdays, Sundays, or holidays.

This declaration only takes into account the individual income of the applicant; The income of the rest of the family unit (spouse or children) is not added. The income that must be declared includes:

  • Gross income from work or pensions.
  • Income from movable capital (bank interest, dividends).
  • Real estate capital income (rentals).
  • Income from professional or agricultural activities.
  • Capital gains from the sale of real estate, investment funds, lottery prizes or rescue of pension plans.
