The project liberalizing Sunday trade is ready

A bill has been submitted to the Sejm to loosen the regulations restricting Sunday trading. The proposal is a compromise.

Poland 2050 MPs have submitted a bill to the Sejm to liberalize the Sunday trading ban. The main assumptions of the latest proposal are to restore two Sunday trading days per month and to increase the rate for work on those days.

Radio Zet specifies that according to the Poland 2050 plan, the rate for work on a commercial Sunday is to be doubled. In addition, the employer will also be obliged to give the employee one day off 6 days before or 6 days after the working Sunday. The creators of the project advertise it as a compromise between full liberalization of trade and the current ban.

According to MP Barbara Oliwiecka, her group’s proposal takes into account the interests of employers, but also takes care of the well-being of customers and employees, who will enjoy additional remuneration and days off. In turn, in the opinion of Żaneta Cwalina-Śliwowska, unblocking Sunday trade will reduce food waste in Poland.

This amendment results, in a sense, from the lack of action by one of the ministries, but I would not like you to perceive it as a conflict in the coalition. It is rather our concern to take care of the implementation of our program and stimulate economic growth in Poland.

– said Ryszard Petru, one of the project applicants.

According to Poland 2050, thanks to the introduction of two shopping Sundays a month, store turnover will increase by several percent and employment will increase by as many as 40,000 people.
