The conflict in the Middle East threatens the stability of the main crude oil supply routes, triggering the price of a barrel of Brent due to fear of shortages. This global increase in raw material prices has a direct impact on the costs of refineries, which are forced to pass the increase on to wholesale prices. An increase that, inevitably, reaches the final consumer, who assumes the geopolitical extra cost.
Despite this, these weeks both gasoline and diesel had fallen, mainly due to the reduction in VAT and the hydrocarbon tax approved by the Government. A decline that, now, has been somewhat truncated, since the drop in gasoline compared to last week is almost imperceptible and, in the case of diesel, it has even increased.
According to the latest published data by the European Union Petroleum Bulletinwith data from April 16, 2026, the average price of 95 gasoline in Spain drops to 1.552 euros per liter, compared to 1.553 euros the previous week, that is, it drops only 0.001 euros. In the case of diesel, the increase places it at 1.885 euros per liter, above the 1.813 euros registered seven days ago, about 0.072 euros more.
With this price, filling the car’s 55-liter tank with gasoline costs 85.38 euros, while if we have diesel, we will have to pay 103.66 euros.
Gas stations that sell a liter of gasoline for 1.28 euros
Checking where to refuel can make a difference. According to the data of the Geoportal From the Ministry for the Ecological Transition, the cheapest 95 gasoline on the peninsula is found this week in Utrera (Seville). This is the Petrouya station, located on Carretera Utrera, where a liter is 1,289 euros.
Also in Utrera, we can refuel at this price at the Plenergy on Calle Almazara and at the Family Energy station, located on Carretera C.Cial Almazara Plaza. Outside of Seville, we find the cheapest one in lcañiz (Teruel), at the Alcampo station, where it is already 1.30 euros.
Gas stations that sell a liter of diesel for 1.39 euros
The cheapest option to refuel with diesel on the Peninsula is this week in Valle de la Serena (Badajoz), located in the Poligono Ctra. Higuera de la Serena, where it is sold at 1.39 euros per liter. This is a notable increase, since, last week, the cheapest option stood at 1.26 euros.

Returning to this week, the next cheapest stations are San Antonio de Padua Station, in Villalpardo (Cuenca), where it is 1.46 euros. And Petrofugueres, located in Figueres (Girona), on Avenida de Roses, where it is also sold at 1.46 euros per liter.
Spain continues below the European average
Although filling the tank continues to be a significant expense for many families, and we are even beginning to see an increase, Spain continues to maintain lower prices than the European average. In the case of 95 gasoline, the liter costs on average 1,854 euros in the European Union and 1,919 euros in the eurozone, compared to the 1,552 euros that Spain sets.
Something similar happens with diesel. The average is 2,100 euros per liter in the European Union and 2,155 euros in the eurozone, while in Spain it remains at 1,885 euros.
This difference is explained, fundamentally, by lower tax pressure and lower distribution costs compared to our European neighbors. However, spending on fuel continues to represent a significant percentage of the family economy, so searching and comparing service stations continues to be an essential strategy to protect your pocket.
