The reduction in VAT on gasoline and diesel from 21% to 10%, announced by the Government of Pedro Sánchez and published in the BOE under Royal Decree-Law 7/2026, is helping to contain the price of fuel, but they have still grown compared to last week. According to the Petroleum Bulletin of the European Union, corresponding to the week of March 19 to 26, 2026, the average price of a liter of gasoline has increased by 1.41%, reaching 1.733 euros, while diesel rose by 2.52%, standing at 1.883 euros per liter.
The reduction in VAT is helping thousands of families to travel this Easter, but even so, fuel prices are much higher than in previous weeks, mainly affecting diesel.
With this new increase, filling an average 55-liter gasoline tank costs approximately 95.31 euros, which means 12.37 euros more than a year ago when it cost 82.94 euros. In the case of diesel, filling a 55-liter tank costs 103.56 euros, which is 24.36 euros more than in the same period last year, when it cost 79.2 euros.
Difference between fuels from Spain and Europe
Although prices have risen, Spain continues to offer fuel at lower prices compared to the European average. Currently, a liter of gasoline costs an average of 1,882 euros in the European Union and 1,920 euros in the eurozone, while in Spain it is 1,733 euros. As for diesel, the European average stands at 2,035 euros per liter, and in the eurozone at 2,043 euros, figures also higher than those registered in our country, where the liter costs 1,883 euros.
This difference is mainly due to the fact that in Spain taxes on fuel and logistics costs are lower compared to other EU countries.
The cheapest gas stations in Spain to refuel with gasoline
This is the average price and it may vary depending on the province or service station where the refueling is carried out. In the electronic headquarters of the Ministry of Industry and Tourism, in the section “fuel prices at Spanish gas stations”, you can check every day at what price fuel is sold at each gas station in Spain.

Whoever is going to fill up with gasoline this week will find the lowest price on the peninsula in Quintanar del Rey, in Cuenca. There, in the San Isidro agricultural cooperative, a liter of 95 E5 gasoline is sold for 1,287 euros. Then several options appear in Tudela, Navarra, with very similar prices, between 1,329 and 1,334 euros. There are also stations with low prices in municipalities of Barcelona such as Badalona, Cornellà de Llobregat and L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, where the liter is around 1,337 euros.
Diesel continues to be sold at 1,019 euros per liter in Murcia
For diesel, the lowest price is in Murcia. The Murcia Station UTE sells diesel A at 1,019 euros per liter, a figure that is below the rest of the options on the list. The next reference appears in Cartagena, with 1,075 euros, and then there are other stations in Ciudad Real, Seville, Almería, Zaragoza or Tarragona, where the liter ranges between 1,239 and 1,290 euros.

For the driver, the difference is clear. Depending on the area where you refuel, filling the tank can be several euros cheaper. Therefore, at a time when fuel continues to weigh so heavily on the pocket, looking at where the cheapest station is once again makes a difference.
