The price of gasoline rises this week and diesel costs less than 1 euro at these gas stations

The average price of fuel in Spain is rising again, after last week’s mirage, in which there was a small drop after several weeks of rising. Of course, it is not the same for diesel as for gasoline. The average price of a liter of diesel has risen to 1.412 euros, so diesel is 0.07% more expensive than last week, while gasoline has continued to fall, with a drop of 0.067%, which leaves it at 1.481 euros.

These data, collected by the Petroleum Bulletin of the European Union (EU), reflect the upward trend in prices that has been continuing for weeks, with the exception of 95 gasoline these last two weeks, and which shows its direct effect on the latest rise in inflation.

The price of filling the tank is 2.72 euros more expensive

Taking into account the current cost of diesel and gasoline, filling a 55-liter tank of diesel costs around 77.66 euros, which is about 2.75 euros more than a year ago, when the amount stood at 74.91 euros. For gasoline, filling the same tank (55 liters) costs approximately 81.45 euros, a figure very similar to that recorded around this time last year.

The average price of a liter of diesel remains well below the level prior to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which began on February 24, 2022, when it cost 1,479 euros per liter. Gasoline also remains below the 1,591 euros per liter that it marked then.

Both fuels remain far from the highs of the summer of 2022, when in July gasoline reached 2,141 euros and diesel 2.1 euros per liter.

Diesel has now been cheaper than gasoline for 136 weeks, thus recovering the usual situation prior to the conflict. During the energy crisis caused by the war, diesel surpassed gasoline in price from August 2022 to mid-February 2023, when the trend was reversed.

The price of fuel is conditioned by various factors, such as the specific price of each product (independent of oil), the evolution of crude oil, taxes, the cost of raw materials and transportation, as well as profit margins.

Finally, variations in the price of crude oil are not immediately reflected in fuels, but rather do so with a certain time delay.
