Spain continues below the European average

Spain continues to maintain fuel prices significantly lower than the European average. According to the latest Petroleum Bulletin of the European Union, the average price of 95 gasoline stands at 1.882 euros per liter in the European Union and 1.942 euros in the eurozone, clearly above the 1.548 euros registered in Spain, which represents a saving of 0.334 euros per liter for Spanish drivers compared to the community average.

Something similar happens with diesel. The EU average reaches 1,901 euros per liter and in the eurozone it reaches 1,948 euros, while in Spain the average price remains at 1,685 euros.

This difference is mainly due to the lower tax burden applied in Spain on fuels. Although the base cost of fuel is similar to that of our neighbors, excise taxes on hydrocarbons and VAT continue to be lower than in countries such as France, Germany, Italy or the Netherlands, which allows the final price at Spanish service stations to remain much more competitive.
