The price of fuel continues its upward trend. This is the sixth consecutive week in which the prices of both gasoline and diesel have risen. Specifically, the average price per liter of gasoline rises 0.48% with respect to the previous passuntil reaching 1,471 euros, while the average price of a liter of diesel increased by 0.49% to 1,423 euros.
These figures, collected in the latest Oil Bulletin of the European Union (EU), consolidate a clear change in the cycle at the pumps. This sustained rebound puts an end to the truce experienced in the final stretch of last year, when fuel prices went down for up to seven uninterrupted weeks before welcoming a 2026 marked again by rising prices.
Filling an average tank of gasoline is 5.63 euros cheaper
Today, filling an average tank of gasoline (55 liters) costs 80.91 euros, which is 5.63 euros less than a year ago, when it reached 86.54 euros. However, in year-on-year terms, filling an average 55-liter tank of diesel now costs 78.26, compared to the previous period when it cost 82.45 euros, so it now costs 4.19 euros less.
When analyzing the gap between both fuels, diesel has already been cheaper than gasoline for 155 weeks. In this way, the market consolidates the traditional pre-war scenario in Ukraine. It should be remembered that the war altered this historical norm, making diesel more expensive than gasoline continuously from August 2022 to mid-February 2023, at which time this anomaly was corrected.
In any case, the final amount paid by drivers is subject to a complex equation. Beyond the value of a barrel of oil, factors such as the specific price of refined products, the tax burden, logistics costs and the profit margins of the operators intervene. Furthermore, crude oil fluctuations do not immediately impact service stations, but rather reach the monoliths with the usual time lag that characterizes this market.
