The average price of electricity this Thursday, March 5, 2026, will be 90.14 euros per megawatt hour (MWh) in the wholesale market, according to data published by the Iberian Energy Market Operator (OMIE). Electricity continues without giving respite to consumers and rebounds by 59.51% regarding Wednesdaywhich represents the fourth consecutive increase of the week. Specifically, about 33.63 euros more will be paid for the ‘pool’.

It must be kept in mind that this amount refers to the price in the wholesale market, which does not include concepts such as taxes or tolls. These are included in the Voluntary Price for Small Consumers (PVPC), which is the one that affects consumers with a regulated or indexed rate in the free market and is published late in the afternoon by Red Eléctrica.

When is electricity cheaper this Thursday?

The cheapest hour of electricity will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., with a price of 38.27 euros/MWh. Although they occur somewhat unevenly, in general the most economical periods of the day occur between mid-morning and mid-afternoon, although all of them are above 35 euros/MWh.

When is electricity most expensive tomorrow, Thursday?

The maximum price of electricity will occur from 7 to 8 p.m., when 158.49 euros/MWh will be reached. The most expensive hours of electricity occur at two different times of the day: from early morning to mid-morning, and between mid-afternoon and early evening.

Evolution of the price of electricity during the first 5 days of March

Although the month has just started, the average price during these first 5 days of March has been 41.69 euros/MWh, which means that electricity is now 39.05 euros cheaper than compared to a year ago, when the average price was €80.74/MWh.

Now, if we compare today’s day with that of just a year ago, there is an increase of 14.27% (something that has been unusual). This is because on March 5, 2025 the price of electricity stood at €78.88/MWh, while the price today stands at €90.14/MWh, which represents a small increase of €11.26 compared to the same date last year.
