The average price of electricity for this Wednesday, May 13, 2026 is €130.03/MWh for consumers with a regulated or indexed tariff contracted in the free market, according to data published by Red Eléctrica. Thus, a change in trend occurs and electricity drops for the first time this week, showing a decrease of 6.36% compared to Tuesday. Specifically, about 8.82 euros less.

As a reminder, it should be noted that this amount refers to the Voluntary Price for Small Consumers (PVPC), which is different from the one publishes the Iberian Energy Market Operator (OMIE) at noon and that shows what the average price costs within the wholesale market.

The price of electricity today, Thursday, May 14, in the PVPC rises again and two bands exceed 200 euros

The price of electricity this Thursday, May 14, rises although there are 8 sections with electricity at less than 1 euro

What is the difference? The PVPC, which affects consumers with a regulated or indexed rate, includes concepts such as access tolls, system charges or electrical system adjustment costs, although it uses the wholesale market price as a base. Thus, it can be said that the wholesale market is the “factory” price of electricity while the PVPC is the “public sale” price, which is regulated by the Government.

Facua campaign for users to claim a discount on their bills due to the 2025 blackout

Facua-Consumers in Action has launched a campaign to help users claim from their distribution companies the discount on their electricity bill due to the blackout on April 28, 2025.

Just like the organization has explainedthe regulations of the electricity sector state that when supply interruptions occur that exceed the established quality thresholds, distributors must assume the consequences derived from this from consumers, proceeding to the corresponding compensation of the affected users.

In relation to this, Facua warns that although the distribution companies should have provided compensation automatically, the fact that they do not now respond to these claims within a period of five business days gives users the right to also receive another 30 euros in compensation, as established by Royal Decree 1955/2000.

To claim the discount, interested parties must access this linkdownload the document that appears, fill it out and send it to your distribution company. The organization has also reported that they have reported to the National Markets and Competition Commission (CNMC) the distributors for not having applied these discounts, in the case of Viesgo Distribución, e-Distribución, E-redes, UFD Naturgy and i-DE Iberdrola.
