The price of electricity falls due to renewables, but the bill may rise again
Except for the increases of these last two days, the price of electricity in Spain is registering one of the lowest costs in Europe in recent weeks thanks to the strong weight of renewable energies, especially solar energy. In fact, several energy companies are already warning that zero or even negative prices could be repeated for years at certain times of the day due to excess photovoltaic production.
However, this decrease has fine print: the Government will withdraw several tax cuts applied to electricity and gas starting in June, which could make the bill more expensive again despite the fact that the wholesale market remains relatively cheap.
