The price of electricity changes every hour: why does it rise and fall so much between sections
The price of electricity in Spain is experiencing a situation of relative stability in April 2026, but with strong changes throughout the day. Although the average cost remains moderate thanks to the weight of renewable energies, peaks continue to be recorded when solar or wind production decreases. This causes there to be very cheap hours, even below zero euros, and others in which the price skyrockets.
One of the key factors continues to be gas. Although its impact is less than in previous years, international tensions, especially in producing areas, continue to generate uncertainty in energy markets. When gas prices rise, the cost of generating electricity increases at times when renewables are not enough, which ends up raising the price of electricity.
For consumers, this translates into a more variable bill. In the regulated market, the price changes constantly, so adapting consumption to the cheapest hours is increasingly important.
