Many people have been forced to leave the labor market to dedicate themselves to household chores as housekeepers or housewiveswhich has left them without the possibility of receiving an income and in addition to continuing to contribute to Social Security. In these cases and if they have exhausted the contributory unemployment benefit, the State Public Employment Service (SEPE) offers a new aid of 570 euros per month that can be collected for 30 months.
This new aid is the subsidy for exhaustion of the contributory benefit. Among the main novelties of this aid for 2025, according to Royal Decree 2/2024, is the unification of family aid and subsidy for people over 45 years of agewhich can no longer be requested and the possibility that people under 45 years of age without family responsibilities can request it, which until now was not possible.
Furthermore, the increase in amount, which initially will be 95% of the Public Indicator of Multiple Effects Income (IPREM). Thus, both the unemployed and those people who carry out domestic work after stopping work and having become unemployed will be able to access this aid from the SEPE, as long as they meet the requirements.
Requirements to collect the aid of almost 600 euros
The SEPE website explains that to access the subsidy for exhaustion of the contributory benefit it is necessary to first exhaust the unemployment to which one is entitled. If you are not entitled to this, you can request the subsidy due to insufficient contributions. Besides, The time that unemployment has been collected must be at least 360 days if you are under 45 years of age.. On the other hand, if you have family responsibilities, it will not be necessary to demonstrate a minimum amount of unemployment.
Once this is exhausted, you can apply for the subsidy, so there is no need to wait a month, since with the subsidy reform this condition was eliminated, but yes, you must meet these other requirements:
- Being completely unemployed or working part-time. If you have several part-time jobs, the sum of the hours worked must not exceed one full day.
- Have exhausted the contributory benefit on November 1, 2024 or on a later date.
- Sign the activity agreement, which implies the willingness to participate in training actions and active job search.
- Lack of income greater than 75% of the minimum interprofessional wage (SMI), or, if this requirement is not met, demonstrate that there are family responsibilities. Currently, the 75% of the SMI is set at 850.5 euros per month.
- If we have worked after having exhausted unemployment, the cessation of this work must be involuntary, that is, having lost employment involuntarily.
Along with these requirements, an annual income statement must be submitted detailing all income for the month prior to the application. Both your own and the rest of the members of your family unit must be included.
Duration and amount
The duration and amount of unemployment benefit depend of several factors, such as the age of the applicant at the time of exhausting the contributory benefit, the downtime consumed and whether or not there are family responsibilities. According to these conditions, the maximum duration of the subsidy will be the following:
For those who do not have family responsibilities:
- If the applicant is under 45 years old and has exhausted a contributory benefit of at least 360 days, the subsidy will have a maximum duration of 6 months.
- If the applicant has more than 45 years and has exhausted a benefit of 120 days or more, the maximum duration will also be 6 months.
For those who have family responsibilities regardless of age:
- If the applicant has exhausted a 120-day contributory benefityou will be able to receive the subsidy for a maximum of 24 months.
- If the service time exhausted is 180 days or morethe maximum duration will be 30 months.
In cases in which the applicant accesses the subsidy without proving family responsibilities, they may provide this documentation within a period of one year from the start of the aid. If you do so within that period, the duration of the subsidy will be extended depending on the time of contributory benefit exhausted.
As for the amount, this will no longer be fixed at 80% of the Multiple Effects Public Income Indicator (IPREM), as was previously the case. Now, During the first 180 days of subsidy, 95% of the IPREM will be receivedwhich is equivalent to 570 euros monthly. between the day 181 and 360the amount will be 90% of the IPREMthat is to say, 540 euros monthly. From the day 361 and until the end of helpthe amount will decrease to 80% of the IPREMequivalent to 480 euros monthly.
The SEPE pays this benefit in arrears, between the 10th and 15th of each month, thus guaranteeing a regular income for the beneficiaries.
