This Tuesday, the Government approved the direct granting of subsidies worth 42.5 million euros for housing actions during the 2025 budget year. The agreement has been adopted by Royal Decree, with the aim of strengthening the affordable and social rental offer and addressing emergency housing situations.

According to the references of the Council of Ministers collected by Europa Press, the subsidy package includes an allocation of 8.37 million euros for the Community of Madrid, within the relocation measures in Cañada Real, one of the main sources of residential vulnerability in the region.

In Catalonia, the Barcelona Metropolitan Area will receive 5.39 million euros, while Barcelona City Council will have 15.77 million and the Barcelona Provincial Council with another 5.39 million. All of these items will be used to promote housing for affordable or social rentals, with the aim of reinforcing a housing stock that, according to the Government, requires urgent attention.

Likewise, a subsidy of 4 million euros has been approved for the Seville Provincial Council, with the same purpose of expanding the availability of affordable rental housing in areas with critical demand.

The Royal Decree also includes an item of 3.56 million euros destined for the Public Land Business Entity (Sepes), to update the agreement signed with the Ministry of Development and the City of Ceuta in December 2018. This agreement aims to promote some 90 homes in Loma Colmenar, which will be classified as protected for rental, in response to their public, social and economic interest.

Budget modifications and future commitments

Furthermore, the Council of Ministers has agreed to authorize and modify the spending limits for future years, so that the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda can assume new budgetary commitments linked to these actions.

With these measures, the Executive seeks to strengthen access to affordable housing, one of the priorities indicated by the Ministry and which is part of the commitments regarding social and territorial cohesion.
