Filling the car tank, turning on the light or shopping at the supermarket is more expensive, and this has been confirmed by data from the Consumer Price Index (CPI). Inflation has risen to 3%, reaching the highest level since last February and one tenth more than what the data offered by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) indicated. advanced at the end of last month.
This increase in the CPI means resuming the increases after the stability that has been maintained during the summer months, where it has been less than this 3%. The Ministry of Economy, Commerce and Business of Carlos Body considers that this increase is explained by the base effects in fuels (increase in the price of gasoline and diesel) and to a lesser extent, electricity.
The INE has reported that the transport group has raised the interannual rate by one point, to 2.2% because fuels and lubricants cost more money than in 2024. On the other hand, it highlighted the drop in the price of travel, specifically in air transport, which was more pronounced than last year.
Buying a house is more expensive
The housing group has also increased the interannual rate by 1.1 points, up to 7.1% due to the drop in the price of electricity, which is lower than that of September last year.
The underlying rate, without unprocessed foods or energy products, remains at 2.4% in September, one tenth above the figure reported by the INE at the end of last month. Economy highlights that the path of moderation is being followed to achieve the 2% objective set by the ECB (European Central Bank).
The price of olive oil drops
The Body Department has highlighted that inflation of food and non-alcoholic beverages has stabilized at 2.4% in the month of September, highlighting the drop in the price of olive oil.
If the monthly terms are taken into account, from September to August, the CPI fell 0.3% after reducing the cost of the tourist package and passenger air transport but at the same time, the price of clothing and footwear has increased due to the beginning of the new autumn – winter season.
