Having children in Spain is increasingly expensive due to the rise in the cost of life and High inflation. Therefore, they are increasing the financial aid that different administrations offer families, extra money that completes low income and that can be used to cover basic expenses such as, for example, Purchase of the supermarket. In this case it is the Barcelona City Council who, as published on its website in the ‘Benefits’ section offers a help of up to 750 euros for low -income families that meet a series of requirements.

This economic aid is punctual and goes from 650 eruos to 750 euros per child and pays families with children born, adopted, welcomed or guarded as long as they meet the registration, residence and income requirements. The aid is designed with the same objective as the Minimum vital income (IMV) That is, to prevent situations of social vulnerability, although in this case it is granted in a unique payment, requesting before it passes a month from the causative fact. This is, from the birth of the baby, or the adoption, guardianship or foster care.

It can be charged from 650 euros to 750 euros per child

The general amount of this benefit “will be 650 euros for birth, adoption, guardianship or foster care”, as it appears on the website of the Barcelona town hall where it also points to that “for families that have recognized the title of large or single -parent family, the amount will be 750 euros.”

In addition, it is specified that this payment will be unique from the resolution of granting. This means that, when the request for this aid is submitted, in case it is favorable, the collection is made only once and not every month.

Requirements to request help: residence, registration and income level

In order to collect this help for families offered by the Barcelona City Council, a series of requirements will have to be met:

  • The person requesting aid must be registered in Catalonia and at least one of the two parents must have been for at least 5 years, of which 2 must be uninterrupted and immediately after the request.
  • It is mandatory that parents reside legally in Spain, one of them must have done so for at least 5 years with 2 continuous just before the presentation date.
  • Access to the benefit is limited to families with certain income levels, depending on the number of members. It is calculated from the general and special tax base of the last IRPF, applying a multiplier coefficient on a base threshold of 16,000 euros according to the following table published by the Barcelona City Council.

0.30 will be added to the coefficient for each additional member. When the applicant is a woman victim of gender violence, she can access the aid with the only calculation of her own income without taking into account the data of the other cohabiting.

Documentation to be submitted to request aid

The application must be made before a month has elapsed from birth, foster care, adoption or guardianship of the child. It is essential to present the DNI or NIE of the two parents, in case of foreign citizens, the foreigner certificate, current residence permit and a copy of the passport.

For the citizens of the European Union (EU), the registration certificate will be needed as a community resident.

With this initiative, the Barcelona City Council intends to strengthen support for families that are in a situation of vulnerability, without employment or with few income. The average is framed within a set of policies to improve social cohesion and reduce social exclusion during the first months of breeding children.
