Sentenced to pay a fine of 480 euros and repair the damage for scratching the car of a former co-worker in the parking lot of a shopping center

The Provincial Court of the Balearic Islands has sentenced a man to pay a fine of 480 euros and to repair the damage caused, valued at 676 euros, for scratching the car of a former co-worker while it was parked in the shopping center parking lot.

According to the ruling of July 31, 2025, he intentionally scratched his former co-worker’s car, which he had left behind. parked in the parking lot of a shopping center. When he returned to pick it up from the parking lot, he found that the right side door had a scratch caused by a sharp object.

The Investigative Court number 6 of Palma considered it proven that the accused was the author of the damage and convicted him of being responsible for a minor crime of damage. But in his appeal, the convicted man maintained his innocence and claimed that there were no witnesses or direct evidence. He stated that the accusation was affecting his honor, reputation and personal and family image, having become the object of comments among his former co-workers.

The cameras captured him hanging around his ex-colleague’s car with some keys in his hand.

The Provincial Court of the Balearic Islands has rejected his appeal and confirmed the conviction, understanding that there is sufficient evidence to refute the presumption of innocence.

The sentence explains that in the recordings of the parking security cameras, the accused, who recognized himself in the images themselves, was seen wandering around the area and passing by his former partner’s car on several occasions, to the point of going around it to pass between his vehicle and the next one. It is also seen that the accused is carrying some keys in his hand, which he passes from one to the other just as he crosses the side of the car, where the damage was later detected.

The hearing points out that, even if there are no eyewitnesses, the evidence is valid as long as there are proven indications that lead to a single logical conclusion. In this case, it considers that the images and behavior of the accused offer a reasonable and coherent inference about his authorship.

For this reason, the first instance resolution has confirmed, the man will have to pay the 676 euros of the settlement and a fine of 480 euros. The sentence is final and there is no appeal against it.
