Labor precariousness in the residences of the elderly has re -jumping to the first line. A video of Ray Glagau (@rayglagau), TCAE in a residence, has been viralized on Tiktok after denouncing that his salary barely exceeds the Minimum interprofessional salary. The trigger was the comparison with an offer of employment from Mercadona, which showed gross salaries between 1,685 and 2,280 euros.
“How can Mercadona pay this and I is killing myself to work in a residence, win a minimum salary and are not able to pay us a little more? I do not understand it,” Ray laments in his video, which already accumulates more than 718,000 views.

The video not only unleashed a flood of responses on salaries and working conditions, but also generated controversy among many users, who interpreted the complaint as a contempt for Work in Mercadona. The controversy went viral, dividing the community and forcing Ray to respond in a second video and third video.
The residences business under magnifying glass
The controversy shoots even more in a second video by contrasting the salary of the workers of the elderly residences and the rates paid by residents and their families. Before the comment of a user who justifies the low salaries ensuring that “the residences do not generate money”, the auxiliary responds that private places reach 2,800 or even 3,000 euros per month and that there are centers with 150 or 200 residents.
The worker thus emphasizes the contradiction that while the rates per place are triggered, the salary of the staff is barely uploaded. “Are you telling me that the residences do not generate money?” He insists. In the comments, other workers confirm that “the cheapest, the private one, is worth 3,500 euros” or directly denounced that “in the private ones the workers and the owners are formed.”
The excuse of “salary according to agreement”
Ray also points to the excuse of the agreement as a brake on any salary ascent: “They always tell you that the salary according to the agreement, as their hands are washed,” he explains. A user summarizes the strategy of many companies: “They make you geroculture contract to pay less.”
In the testimonies it can be seen that the same employer pattern is repeated with stagnant wages, extreme work charges and monthly invoices for the elderly that do not correspond to the conditions of the personnel.
The young woman took advantage of this third and last video to clarify that “at no time did I belittle anyone’s work” and that her complaint was addressed to the residences sector and the excuse of the agreement.
The discussion also shows the escape of professionals in the sector. “I have already thrown curriculum to Mercadona. If they call me, I’m leaving,” admits Ray. In the comments, there are those who say that “working on residences is superduro, nor valued nor paid” or that “The TCAES We are undervalued, they should pay more. ”
