Polish companies appreciate new technologies

More and more Polish export companies use or intend to use the latest technologies.

In 2023, the interest of export companies in new technologies has increased significantly in Poland, according to a study conducted by the Polish Economic Institute. The greatest interest in this topic is expressed by large companies with a medium-low or medium-high level of technology, employing at least 250 people.

The published study showed that in 2023, the interest of Polish companies in robotics increased by 8 percentage points, and by 5 percentage points in 3D printing and the Internet of Things. According to PIE analysts, this indicates the growing importance of new technologies for maintaining the competitiveness of companies, but also about favorable conditions for their development. According to data from the Central Statistical Office, in 2021-2022, expenditure on research and development in Polish enterprises increased by as much as 24 percent and accounted for 0.96 percent of GDP (the EU average is 1.48 percent). In 2023, Polish exporters were most willing to implement or were interested in big data analysis (23 percent), SQL systems (51 percent), ERP resource management systems (65 percent) and cloud technology (27 percent).

According to PIE, in 2023 the innovation of exporting companies returned to pre-pandemic levels.

In the years 2012-2019, the share of exporters that introduced innovations in the last three years was on average 66%. In 2020, this indicator fell to 56%, and for two years it has been oscillating around the average from before the pandemic shock – in 2023 it amounted to 64%. This result is much higher than the data from the Central Statistical Office on the innovativeness of all companies operating in Poland indicate. In 2022, innovations were introduced by 32.2% of industrial enterprises and 32.1% of service enterprises.

The PIE analysis indicated that Polish exporters use websites as a sales or online promotion tool less often than other companies in Poland. In order to acquire new customers, such companies prefer to participate in trade fairs.
