A Polish-Chinese meeting took place in Warsaw, the main topic of which was cooperation in the agri-food sector.
A meeting with the Chinese ambassador to Poland, Sun Linjiang, was held at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, during which the most important issues in the field of bilateral cooperation in the agri-food sector were discussed. Poland hopes to increase its exports to the Middle Kingdom.
The Polish side was represented in the talks by the general director of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Bogusław Wijatyk, who drew attention to the need to balance Polish-Chinese trade and increase exports. For his part, Ambassador Sun Linjiang stated that Polish food is appreciated in China due to its quality and taste.
Poland exported food worth almost EUR 52 billion last year and has a significant surplus in agri-food trade. Against this background, we consider the latest export results to China to be significantly below our potential
– said Bogusław Wijatyk.
The director emphasized that the basic measure to increase exports to China is to significantly expand access to the Chinese market for Polish food. Warsaw is particularly hopeful that Beijing will change its approach to the subject of Polish meat exports and that the Chinese will respect the principles of regionalization in the field of animal diseases. In addition, Poland expects the smooth completion of the last technical arrangements and the start of exports to China of beef, blueberries and pet food in 2024.
In total, in 2023, Polish exports to China reached EUR 147.6 million, and Polish milk and dairy products are the most popular among Chinese consumers. In order to increase the presence of our products in China, Poland is conducting numerous information and promotional activities on the local market, and this year our country is scheduled to participate in the Sial China fair in Shanghai (in May) and FOOD EXPO PRO in Hong Kong (in August).
