The European Union has warned of a serious security problem in a series of Renault models through its rapid alert system of non -food dangerous products (old Rapex). The notice specifically affects Renault and Dacia brands and is based on a problem detected with the handbrake that is mainly found in automatic car models such as the Renault Scenic or Dacia Duster.
The drivers of the affected vehicles will be called to review by postal mail or other media in order to take their cars to the workshop to avoid major evils. The notice has already been communicated by the DGT and for the OCU Through different media, although in principle from Renault they report that there would only be 44 cars affected in Spain.

Automatic cars brake failure
The EU hazardous products alert mechanism is a true guarantee of early detection of problems to avoid subsequent breakdowns or accidents. These notices affect practically all car brands and new alerts come out every month to correct in progress problems.
The last one has been the handbrake of the automatic cars of Renault and Dacia. The alert is specifically based on the placement of the change lever in the Parking P position in certain selected models, because apparently the handbrake is not always automatically activated.
An important problem in one of the most important active security systems of the vehicle, since if it does not work correctly “it would leave the car at the expense of the slope of the place where it has been parked,” the initial warning reports. “A situation with a high risk of accident if the hand brake had not been expressly activated,” according to the preliminary report.
Models affected by error
This error in the parking brake would affect automatic versions of the Renault Austral, Captur, Espace, Rafale, Scenic and Symbioz models, and in the Dacia Duster, manufactured all between the months of April 2024 and May 2025.
Really and according to the first estimates given by the OCU, the alert could affect more than 20,000 cars in our country, Renault Fuentes assure us that “in Spain there are only 44 vehicles involved.”
Notice to the owners of cars Renault and Dacia
According to the first notices released by the OCU in Spain, “the DGT and the brands themselves are already notifying the owners of the affected vehicles, so that they take their vehicles to the workshop to solve the ruling.” In addition, the consumer organization recalls that “the breakdown must be repaired totally free and as soon as possible.”
In any case, from the OCU they advise “asking the customer service of Renault or Dacia if your vehicle is among those affected, especially if it was acquired second hand; in this case it is possible that the owner is not in the brand database.” This information is key and therefore we share it with the greatest possible in advance.
