The First Vice President and Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, said Monday in Rota (Cádiz) that the Executive will take to the Congress the project of General State Budgets by 2026. The minister responded bluntly to the questions of the journalists, stating: “flatly yes”, in relation to the will of the government to present such public accounts and thus confirming the words of Pedro Sánchez. The PGE.
During his appearance before the media, Montero stressed that the objective of the budgetary project is to make visible the political priorities of the Executive, focused on the welfare of the social majority. “Of course, the Government of Spain will present the budget project that allows us to show what are the political priorities that are promoting, fundamentally aimed at the welfare of the social majority of citizens as a whole,” he said.
Criticism of the Popular Party model
The minister took advantage of her intervention to contrast the government’s approach with that of the opposition, particularly that of the Popular Party. He said that his executive “works for the interest of most people”, unlike what, in his opinion, does the PP: “mainly serves minority sectors, elites, privileged sectors,” he added.
He also accused popular leaders of using public resources for the benefit of specific sectors, instead of allocating them to essential services. “Instead of using public resources to improve health, education, dependence, which is really the mattress of equality that citizens have before any incidence or issue,” the minister reproached.
Reinforcement of social spending despite the budget extension
Montero also addressed the current budget extension situation, noting that, even so, the government is increasing the items destined to key areas of the welfare state. “The Government of Spain is also increasing those amounts, those budgetary items that are aimed at improving that interest of citizenship,” he said, specifically mentioning the agency, scholarships, health and fight against forest fires.
“So, flatly yes, we will present that budget project.”
