Today everyone has their own mobile phone or smartphone and needs to load it at home every day so as not to run out of battery and be able to continue using it. Although most people do not pay too much attention to how to load their phone, but most plug and forget, this can be essential if we want to save on the light bill.
The detail that almost nobody pays attention and that the electricity bill goes up in our homes is to leave the plugged charger without any device being loading. A plugged charger without device consumes energy, which increases expenses and can also generate problems in the charger itself. This custom that we have almost all may seem nonsense, but it affects the budget and home safety.

Why does expensive leave the charger plugged in?
Loading the mobile is something so routine that we hardly think about it: once or twice a day, depending on the use and what the battery endures. It seems little thing, but if we do not take care of some habits, the light of the light can rise without us noticing. To get an idea: according to RTE, a three -hour cycle with a 5 W charger spends about 0.015 kWh. It is not much, but after a year that is already 5.48 kWh, or what is the same, about 1.38 euros. A small amount, yes, but multiplies when we have several devices plugged all the time. Of course, these amounts also depend on the daily price of electricity, so it is recommended to consult which are the cheapest hours of light every day.
The typical thing is that, after loading the phone, we unplug it … but we leave the charger on the wall. Even if it seems, it continues to consume electricity. One does not represent much, but with several it shows, and that expense could be avoided simply by removing the charger when it is not used.
The ‘stand by’ that makes the invoice more expensive
An ENGIE study in 2022 tested with six loaders plugged in the same strip. Just being waiting, they added about 40 cents a year. Sounds little, but that expense accumulates with that of other devices in stand by, and in the end the invoice rises.
And it is not just a money issue: a charger plugged in all day can also overheat and, in the worst case, cause a fire, especially if it is of poor quality or is damaged.
Keys to save on the light bill
Common sense helps more than it seems. Better use strokes with a switch to cut the current current, occasionally check the status of the cable and, if the charger is already old, replace it with a certified and reliable one.
Nor should the mobile charge all night: when it reaches 100 %, it is still “ready” for hours and the charger continues to work more. Ideally, get used to unplug him when he is already loaded. In addition, the charger lasts longer because it heats up less.
Another trick: Configure the mobile to save battery. Reducing the brightness, limiting apps in the background or activating the savings mode prolongs each load and makes us not have to plug it so many times.
At home, what seems like a detail multiplies. Several strips with switch, air loaders (never covered with fabrics or curtains) and well -placed cables are small gestures that make a difference.
