The search for better job opportunities abroad It has become one of the most attractive options for thousands of young Spaniards, especially those with university training and more technical profiles. The difficulty in accessing stable, well-paid jobs in Spain, together with the precariousness and scarcity of professional development possibilities, has led to more and more graduates choosing to emigrate to European countries with more attractive working conditions.

Among the destinations, Germany, with its constant demand for engineers and salaries significantly higher than those in Spain, has become one of the preferred destinations for this new generation of young workers.

How much do you earn as an engineer in Germany?

Laia Gallofré, a young engineer from Barcelona, has shared through a video published on her TikTok profile (@laiagallofre), her work experience in Germany, becoming the reflection of an increasingly common trend among qualified young Spaniards.

“I have been working as an engineer in Germany for 3 years,” she begins by explaining in her video, where she details the evolution of her salary. “I started charging 50,000 euros gross per year, about 2,500 euros net per month in 13 payments, and believe me, with that you can live perfectly and save if you want,” he says, although he points out that “that is the minimum you can charge here as an engineer.”

Laia’s testimony illustrates the rapid career progression that some young people achieve in the German labor market. According to him, after just 6 months in his first job, he joined another company that offered him 70,000 euros gross per year. Currently, two years later, his salary has risen to 95,000 euros per year.

“Don’t settle,” he advises other users, although he clarifies that his case is “a little above average,” but that “70,000 euros per month as an engineer here in Germany is a very feasible salary, and that is about 3,300 euros per month, which in 13 payments is crazy,” he emphasizes.

However, the Barcelona engineer also warns about taxation in the German country, which can largely explain the high salaries. “Keep in mind that taxes here are quite high,” he reminds, while encouraging those considering taking the leap to consult salary simulators to calculate the real net salary.
