Artificial intelligence is quickly becoming a favorite tool to help with job applications. Recent survey results from Statista+ show that more than 60% of job seekers in the US and UK have used AI in the application process over the past 24 months, making it the norm rather than the exception by 2026.
While AI offers many options to support candidates in their job search – from screening job offers to writing resumes and cover letters to sending emails – its use remains controversial for some: around six in ten respondents in the US and UK said they believe those using AI should do so in a way that is not recognizable as AI, indicating that it still has a negative connotation. More than half of participants in both countries also felt that the use of AI in the application process causes applications to convey a false image of candidates’ actual skills.
Interestingly, Americans were much more likely to believe that companies approve of applicants using AI when applying for jobs – 52%, compared to 39% in the UK – highlighting that negative perceptions around AI can vary from country to country.
