How much is collected as a pension for family members: these are the amounts in 2026

The pension for family members is an economic benefit that Social Security grants to those family members who have lived with and financially depended on the deceased person and who, in addition, meet the required requirements. The objective of this aid is to protect the financial need that occurs after death.

For 2026, contributory pensions are generally revalued by 2.7%, according to Royal Decree 39/2026, of January 21. This same rule also sets the maximum pension for public pensions at 3,359.60 euros per month and 47,034.40 euros per year.

The amounts of the pension for family members in 2026 and who can access it are detailed below.

Pension amounts in favor of family members

The amount of the pension for family members is calculated by applying 20% of the regulatory base. Now, when this amount does not reach the legal minimum, Social Security can supplement it up to the corresponding minimum amount, as long as the income limits are met. Distributed into 14 payments, the amounts are as follows:

  • Minimum amount per beneficiary: 4,011 euros per year, which in 14 payments is 286.50 euros per month.
  • A single beneficiary aged 65 or older, if there is no widow or orphan pensioner: 9,683.80 euros per year, which in 14 payments is 691.70 euros per month.
  • A single beneficiary under 65 years of age, in the same case: 9,126.60 euros per year, which in 14 payments is 651.90 euros per month.

In the case of collecting the minimum supplement, Social Security remembers that they are not consolidated, they are absorbable if income increases or another pension is recognized, and they can be claimed as an improper collection if it is later proven that the income limit was exceeded. In short, it is intended to supplement the lower pensions of those pensioners with low incomes.

The Social Security website explains that the income limit in 2026 to collect the minimum supplement is set at 9,442 euros per year when there is no dependent spouse. Although it does not usually affect this benefit, the initial maximum limit of public pensions in 2026 is set at 3,359.60 euros per month or 47,034.40 euros per year.
