What would you think if they told you that you could run out of beer during Easter or the most important holiday in your city? Surely nothing good. Well, this is what could happen to thousands of Sevillians, who are not assured of the supply of this drink on what are surely their most important dates.
And the workers of the delivery company DHL, through the CCOO union delegation in Seville, have called a 48-hour strike for this Thursday and Friday at the Heineken (Cruzcampo) logistics centers in Seville, in Mairena de Alcor and in Dos Hermanas, according to information from Cadena Ser.
The strike seeks a salary increase that these workers have been asking for for years and also requests a collective agreement that recognizes their status as forklift drivers and equal incentives between workers.
In this context, the DHL union representative, Jesús Pérez, defends the importance of having a collective agreement, since he considers that “it greatly weakens the functions of the committee.” Furthermore, he explains that “within this agreement, this collective agreement, what we are asking is for us to be recognized as a forklift operator. Our characteristics are eight hours in a forklift and there are many logistics operators who perform the same function and have a plus.”
Criticism of incentives and working conditions
In relation to the incentives, Pérez denounces that “it is not just for a few, who have chosen the company at random at will”, a situation that the union describes as “discriminatory.”
Likewise, the workers demand that the company respect the statutes and establish a specific bonus for the fourth shift, in addition to guaranteeing at least three weeks of vacation during the summer.
Possible shortage during Holy Week and Fair
The employees warn that the strike could affect the supply of beer in the warehouses for Easter and also the Fair, since, as they indicate, they will maintain their demands.
Finally, the union asks DHL management to begin a negotiation process to avoid the paralysis of logistics activity.
