Elma Saiz highlights the government’s commitment to climb in the affordable housing projects of the Social Impact Fund

The Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migrations, Elma Saiz, has visited Níjar (Almería) to know the model of accommodation and accompaniment for vulnerable people who drives Tutechô in this town. This is the first operation of the Housing Line of the Social Impact Fund (FIS) that manages Cofides and that is attached to his department.

The amount is intended for the purchase of 30 new properties to rent with a 30% income less than the one offered in the market, reinforcing the operational capacity throughout the national territory. This has been explained by Saiz to the media he has attended in the subdelegation of the Government of Almería and where he has been Newsstrobajo. “I have had the opportunity to see and listen to testimonies of a project that works and I have committed to entities to perform an exhaustive analysis and accelerate the goal of continuing to climb.”

On the part of the Government of Spain, the minister has recognized that “we are aware of the problem that exists with access to housing, which is more pressing in the case of vulnerable people.” He has appealed to the need to continue working thanks to the social impact fund that “is a financial tool, a maximum public -private collaboration exercise to make impact investments and that can also be measurable.”

Saiz has pointed out that with these investments it is not only being able to see how the housing market improves, but that the most vulnerable people are helped. “Personalized accompaniment is a lever of inclusion and of course it is not seen only in employment but in housing, which is a fundamental tool.”

Commitment to allocate up to 40 million euros from fis to housing

“With this specific line of the FIS, the objective is to promote access to decent housing contributing to eradicate withouthogarism and residential exclusion and there is a commitment to allocate up to 40 million euros of these funds to housing,” said the minister.

At the moment, this social company has a housing park of 411 properties in 20 Spanish provinces in collaboration with more than 80 social entities and in Níjar there are 23 housing units and a farmhouse through which 189 people have passed. The minister has known the operation of the model, visiting the 12 homes of a social program that drives the SJM (Jesuit to Migrants), which currently hosts 66 people mostly between 19 and 39 years old and two families.

He has also been at Casa Arrupe that was the first place acquired by Tutechô in Níjar, which combines housing and community spaces, where he has talked with some of the users, residents, volunteers and workers.

Repopulating Spain emptied with vulnerable families

Through the so -called rural line of this same program, the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migrations is working on the repopulation of Spain emptied with families in vulnerable situations and has 45 homes in villages at risk of abandonment. With the support of the FIS, a work perspective against rural depopulation will be done and a pilot project will be addressed.
