The housing crisis has once again starred in one of the most talked about moments of ‘LaSexta

“I came with my dreams loaded in my suitcases and when I have finished my degree you say: ‘What a reality,’” he confessed, pointing out that he pays 600 euros for a room and criticizing the proliferation of small apartments of barely 30 square meters rented at prices that he considers exorbitant. Furthermore, he reported that many landlords take advantage of the lack of alternatives to raise the price of rents. “They knock on your door and tell you: either you pay me 100 euros more or you go out on the street.”

A generation trapped by rent prices

Aritz also criticized the conditions in which many students are forced to live in Madrid, where, as he explained, small studios of just 30 square meters are increasingly common “with the bed above the kitchen and the bathroom next to the sofa, because we don’t have a living room and they rent it to you for 1,500 euros.”

He has also questioned criticism of the Housing Law and compared the evolution of rental prices in Catalonia and Madrid. According to him, in Catalonia (where some price limitation measures are applied), the rent would have increased by 1.9%, compared to the 9.7% registered in Madrid.

“There are people who have anxiety and don’t sleep at night because they don’t know if they will be able to stay home next month.”

The student’s intervention spread quickly on social networks and once again put the focus on a reality that affects more and more young people in large cities, such as the increase in rental prices and the difficulties in accessing housing in affordable conditions.
