Ángel Martín (72 years old) retired: “I have contributed for more than 45 years and I have a penalty of 28.8% for life”

Ángel Martín, a 72-year-old retiree, has exploded against the current Social Security pension system. Specifically with what has to do with the jearly retirement. In a letter sent to 65ymore He has described his situation and that of another 900,000 retirees as “the robbery of the century.” And the fact is that many people who request early retirement see their benefit later reduced even though they have, as is the case of Martín, long contributions careers.

In the text, he claims to feel harmed since he has been contributing for more than 45 years but despite that, he has a penalty of 28.8% “for life.” You are not alone and you know it. In fact, he has sent a message of support to the Asjubi40 association of whom he has said, are doing “immense work” by putting all their efforts into achieving “what is ours through our extensive Social Security contributions.” And he asks himself, “personally, 45 years and 3 months… isn’t that enough?”

Ángel’s story is that of thousands of people who, despite far exceeding the years necessary to collect 100% of their retirement pension, chose or were ‘forced’ to retire before reaching the ordinary retirement age. And this entails the application of reducing coefficients for life.

“I started working very early and I think I have accomplished more than enough”

The retiree protests about his situation and explains that “I started working very early and I think I have more than fulfilled my country. They have sentenced us for life and I don’t know if I will ever see my pension increased by the amount I deserve after having given everything for our beloved Spain, although I already have my doubts about being beloved.”

An opinion shared by the members of the Asjubi40 association whom this retiree cites in his letter. They have already repeatedly expressed their indignation at the situation that is being experienced in their group. Very long trading careers that are not compensated later. “We have been asking for justice for more than ten years and we remain the same,” some of its members noted in November 2025.

Retirees remember that in Spain there are groups that can retire at age 60 with 35 contributions and 100 percent of the pension, such as train drivers, teachers or artists. But they, with 40 or 45 years of contributions, have to “suffer” the reducing coefficients “for life.”
