Job insecurity in Spain pushes many young people to look for opportunities outside the country. Australia It is one of those destinations that offer conditions and quality of life with a special appeal for those who seek to live new experiences that allow them to combine their social life with work, that is, work to live.
This is the case of Lega Wave, a young farmer from Spain who has worked two seasons in a row in the Australian grain campaign and has published a video in which he tells how much win a week.
More than 1,600 euros a week
The boy explains that this is going to be his third campaign with the company Graincorp, one of the most important and largest in all of Australia, where, he assures, “it is easier to enter.” In this type of farms they pay by the hour: “We charge 34 Australian dollars (€19.02) for the first 40 hours and then we charge $61 (€34.13) for extra hours,” he details.
Between the first and last weeks there was a big difference due to the volume of work, he says: “Between the first and last weeks of the season where there is less, you earn about $1,000 (€559.46) and the middle weeks where you do more, you can earn more than $3,000 (€1,678.38) a week.”
The grain campaign usually lasts from September to December, but it varies depending on the weather: “It usually lasts about two months and it depends, since you cannot work with rain,” he declares. It also depends on the region where the crop was planted.
A boost to the bank account
The young man, who has come to work this crop with several lifelong friends, tells in another of his publications the facilities offered by his employers: they give them accommodation and they have almost no expenses. This allows them to save, as indicated, up to $15,000, about €8,391.90.
An amount that, he himself says, he has invested in traveling around the world, but that also serves to give a boost to his bank account and continue with his plans. The rise of young Spaniards who, like Lega Wave, are looking for a job and life opportunity in Australia, where Australian farms welcome workers from all over the world, offering competitive salaries and decent living conditions.
