The prices of renting and purchasing housing push young people to look for alternatives to survive in cities with stressed areas. In recent times, prefabricated houses, camper vans and even motorhomes are presented as a temporary option to save. This last option is the one chosen by a young content creator (@mellamanzapa), who has published a video on his TikTok profile in which he has shared the monthly expense of living in a motorhome versus that of residing in an apartment, ensuring that, according to his calculations, the first option was more economical.

The boy has detailed each item of expense and has explained why, in his case, the home vehicle offers him greater economic advantages.

Cost breakdown: from loan to energy consumption

In his speech, the young man raised the question “what is cheaper? Living in a motorhome or living in an apartment?” With it he has started the debate and based on it he has explained the expenses he faces each month.

It started with the monthly loan that you pay for the vehicle, which ranges “between €300 and €600 per month, depending on the model you are going to take,” he noted. The variation fluctuates between “about 40 or 60 euros per month,” he indicates.

Regarding consumption, he detailed that “gas and gasoline, I have estimated, if you move very little, between €20 and €50 per month.” Basic supplies, that is, water and electricity, are “practically free. I pay €12 a month,” he says.

He has continued with the amounts of a traditional home to make the comparison. He explains that the rent could “be between €600 and €1,100 depending on the city they live in.” Electricity and water bills are “between about €100 and €150 a month,” he adds. And with respect to others such as the community and garbage, according to him, it would be “about €30 a month.”

After offering this breakdown, he concluded that “if you do the quick math, you are realizing that living in a motorhome is much more profitable than in an apartment.” However, the creator himself has added one last note to reflect on this lifestyle, focusing on the least visible part, asking the community “could you live with everything you have in 10m²?”

The testimony of @mellamanzapa, focused on his particular case, contributes to fueling a debate that continues to grow: if the cost of housing continues to rise, to what extent will non-conventional residential formulas increase?
