A Spanish retiree who lives in Thailand and pays only 100 euros for rent for a house: “Here with 150 euros we left”

A Spanish retiree explains how he has managed to turn his life after leaving Spain behind and moving to Thailand, where his pension gives him much more. In an interview with Sergio Castillo published on his Tiktok channel (@sergiocastillo.180), he has quickly gone viral for a very simple reason: with a fairly scarce pension and after a lifetime working as a lifeguard, in another country he barely needs 150 euros per month to cover all basic expenses, while in Spain he would need much more.

What has surprised the followers most is the rental price. “How much have you told me that this house is worth?” The Sergio asks him. “100 euros per month. Laugh, huh?” Replies the retiree with laughter. But the thing does not stay there: water, light and even daily air conditioning just add a little more, and according to him, “here with 150 euros we go out”, making it clear that living comfortable does not have to be expensive.

The food, another expense that is usually fired in Spain, here is almost anecdotal. The protagonist states that they can eat for just 5 euros a day, and that fresh products and menu options make the € 700 pension on whims. “Here the ‘van’ (typical Thailand dish) come out to two euros and peak. You can afford a complete menu without looking at your pocket,” he explains.

The story of this retiree has unleashed all kinds of comments on networks, especially among those who are impossible to reach the end of the month with a low pension in Spain. “It’s to think about it,” some users write. And, while many in our country continue to juggle the invoices, there are those who look for life away … and end up living better than they never imagined.
