Healthcare workers have been demanding an improvement in their working conditions for years, starting with eliminating shifts of up to 48 hours. Now, they are not the only personnel who are against the salaries that are being received in hospitals and health centers.
This 2025, during an interview conducted by Talent Match (an HR company), a cleaner was very clear when evaluating the salary she had been receiving: “in the hospital everyone earns and we are the one who earns the least and the one who has the most physical effort,” she explained, working on her case at the Taulí hospital, in the Emergency Room.
She said that “many people depend on them” and that “without our work, neither the doctors nor the nurses can work.” Asked about their salary, she only explained that they were “mileuristas”, without giving the exact figure, considering that “for the work we do”, they are poorly paid. She did offer the salary for which she would feel well paid: “about 1,600 or 1,700 euros, covering expenses and food.”
The video generated more than 3,000 comments, both for and against the cleaner’s point of view: “You are the ones who earn the least because you are possibly the ones who have the least training”, “I am an emergency nurse, I earn that after having 2 careers and a competitive exam… Logically, the less studies, the less salary… and regarding physical work, the orderlies and TCAE lift patients…” are some of the comments against.
“Totally agree. The way the standard of living is in Barcelona and its surroundings, no one should earn less than 1,500 euros”, “what is incredible is that people think that a salary of 1,600 euros is a lot of money”, or “I am a security guard at the Barcelona Clinical Hospital and the workers in the cleaning sector are absolutely right”, are others in favour.
