A 92 -year -old retiree who lived only leaves his inheritance of 930,000 euros to a nurse who took care of him only 24 days and now the family claims it

It has not been and will not be the first time that a person has decided to put aside his family to give the inheritance to another person outside the family environment, which he does on many occasions that, after death, there is a legal dispute over inheritance, especially when money reaches exorbitant amounts. A case is that of Lionel Cox, a 92 -year -old retiree who, after death, left his inheritance of 930,000 euros to a nurse, who took care of him his last 24 days of life. As was evident, this has caused a legal dispute with the family of the deceased, which ensures that Cox was not in a position to make decisions of their own will, in addition to the testament being written in extremely doubtful circumstances.

Everything begins in 2015, when Lionel Cox enters a residence for older people (Cambridge House, in Australia). This retiree had no children or close relatives, and his state of health was already delicate, according to the magazine People. As explained by the judicial investigation, Abha Anuradha Kumar was a nurse, caregiver of this man and responsible for the center and a few days he learned that this man had a home and that he had not done the will.

Upon learning of the millionaire inheritance, the nurse prepared the model to sign it for Cox to sign it, all in the presence of two other nurses, who acted as witnesses. According to this “testament”, he stated that Cox left him all his inheritance, which was valued at 930,000 euros. As explained by lawyer Geoffrey, cousin of the deceased “was written in the most suspicious circumstances imaginable”

An inheritance without legality

When Cox died because of pneumonia, Kumar was not on service, but after learning about the fact, he called an employee to begin to locate the keys of this retiree before they removed the body. As the file explains, she presented himself to give an account of the death, present the death certificate and manage the will and inheritance.

Everything was in the most absolute normality until, in 2021, relatives filed a complaint in court to cancel the validity of the will. The judge after assessing the facts decided to give the reason to the family and ask the woman to return the party that had not yet been spent on the inheritance, which was about 510,000 euros.

But the thing was not here, since in parallel the Nursing and Obstetrics Council of Australia withdrew the professional license to Kumar in 2019. “It was excessively involved in the personal affairs of Mr. Cox,” explains the body. Now, what did he do with the rest of the money, according to this media, the nurse spent 140,000 euros on lawyers for her defense.

Finally, lawyer James Dimond, who represents the family, positively valued the sentence: “It is a reminder that the law can (and must) act in these cases.” In statements collected by the local medium The Sydney Morning Herald, he said that although it is a rare case, “the elderly without family support are often pressed to sign wills or documents that do not reflect their real will.”
